Elpress Crate Inspection System

The Crate Inspection System (CIS) is a visual inspection system that determines within one second whether a crate is clean or damaged on the inside. The technology works with smart cameras that inspect each crate. Using machine learning, the system recognises dirt, damage and stickers. Based on pre-set rules, the system determines what to do with the dirty and damaged crates.

In combination with our (optional) eCloud data platform, the results are immediately stored digitally for audits and analysis.

  • Smart and self-learning
  • Fast and continuously deployable
  • Simple analyses

The Elpress Crate Inspection System can be installed and used behind all crate washers. The system measures 3500 x 1300 x 1850 mm (LxWxH). The system is suitable for crates with maximum dimensions of 600 x 400 x 300 mm (LxWxH).

Why the Crate Inspection System?

In many production environments within the food industry, the inspection of crates is still a manual process. Employees often visually assess whether a crate is clean and/or undamaged. This approach is not only error-prone and expensive, but also poses a risk to the continuity of your production.

When contaminated or damaged crates enter the process unnoticed, this increases the risk of cross-contamination, downtime or quality problems. At the same time, pressure from legislation and regulations is increasing: HACCP and ISO audits increasingly require demonstrable and documented hygiene and quality controls. Without digital registration, it is difficult to comply with these requirements.

In addition, broken crates pose logistical risks. In storage and warehouse environments, a single defective crate can lead to unstable stacks and even domino effects in which multiple pallets fall over.

The CIS system is a fully automated and reliable inspection solution. The system guarantees that only crates that are actually clean and intact move on to the next stage. This not only saves costs, but also increases the safety, sustainability and reliability of the entire process.

In short: with the CIS system, you work smarter, cleaner and safer.

Applications of the CIS system

The Elpress Crate Inspection System (CIS) offers maximum control and certainty regarding the condition of crates.

The CIS system, measuring 3500 x 1300 x 1850 mm (LxWxH), is placed behind a crate washer, where it checks whether the cleaning process has been successful and whether the crate is clean and intact before it continues in the production process. This prevents contaminated or damaged crates from being put back into circulation unnoticed.

The CIS system performs a quick and accurate check for:

  • Contamination: such as food residues, fats, moisture or other contaminants that pose a risk to food safety and hygiene.
  • Damage: including cracks, tears or deformations that affect the strength of the crate.
  • Presence of stickers or labels: unwanted stickers can cause dirt to stick or lead to malfunctions in automated processes.

Fast return on investment and long-term added value

The Elpress Crate Inspection System delivers fast value through:

  • Reduced labour costs and staff redeployment
Automatic inspection saves on personnel costs and allows employees to focus on work that is more satisfying and adds more value.

  • Less production downtime, failure and damage
Defective and contaminated crates are immediately removed from the process thanks to automatic recognition and removal. This prevents malfunctions, loss of quality and problems with unstable crates in the warehouse.

In most cases, the CIS system pays for itself within an average of 1.5 years with a crate volume of approximately 50,000 to 70,000 crates per year. The savings come from lower labour costs and less production downtime. In addition, the higher process reliability helps to avoid hidden costs such as rejects or quality claims.

Frequently asked questions

Below are some frequently asked questions about the CIS system.

Is the CIS system suitable for my process?

Yes, the CIS system can be trained for specific crates and processes.
The CIS system can be used in virtually all situations where crates are in circulation. The system is fully adapted to your specific crates, processes and contamination levels. Our specialists ensure that the CIS system is tailored to your unique situation, from the types of crates used to the type of dirt or damage that occurs in your production process. This makes the CIS system ideal for a wide range of sectors, from meat and fish processing to logistics and warehousing.

Can the system be integrated with our existing washing machine?

The CIS system has been specially developed for seamless integration into existing washing systems. You retain the full capacity of your washing line and benefit from additional quality control. Would you like to know what the most efficient solution is for your washing line? We would be happy to help you find the right solution.

How much does the CIS system cost?

That depends on your situation. Please contact us for a no-obligation quote.

Is the CIS system able to detect both contamination and damaged crates?

Yes, the CIS system can inspect both contamination and damage separately and simultaneously. The system assesses whether the crate is clean and whether it is free of damage such as cracks or breaks. This ensures that only crates that are clean and undamaged continue in the process. This not only prevents hygiene risks, but also potential logistical problems or production downtime due to broken crates.

For which crates is the CIS system suitable?

The CIS system is suitable for virtually all types of crates with maximum dimensions of 600 x 400 x 300 mm (LxWxH). The system is fully tailored to your specific crate types, regardless of size, colour or material. During implementation, the CIS system is programmed to recognise the characteristics of your crates and the types of contamination or damage that may occur in your process.

What types of contamination can the CIS system detect?

The system can detect all types of contamination, from proteins to blood residues and from sticker to adhesive residues. Curious to know whether the system is also suitable for your production environment? Our specialists will be happy to provide you with tailored advice.

How does the system know what is dirty or broken?
